My name is Abdullahi Ibrahim, originally from Somalia. I am a Secretary to the Baord & Community Executive Director. I am living in Syracuse New York with my six family members. I went to Onondaga Community College  for my Associate Degree and transfered to Syracuse University(SU) pursuing my undergradute Bachelors Degree in Social Work/Information Systems Technology. I have graduated from SU with my Bachelors of Science Degree during the Spring of 2011 and currently I am a part time graduate student at SU working on my Masters Degree in Social Work(MSW) in the clinical field. Iam the only first person in our family to go to College or University. I think I know about the bottom line why going to school is very important for me. This applies to anyone who is willing to seek for higher education to prosper his or her lives and support their families and children as well. So, I remember that life rewards actions, not only good intentions. I will admit any challenge experiences during my studying period and in my life in order to develop my professional skills. This is a pretty basic formula for my success. Now it is the time for me to take a hard look at what I have before any given semester/academic year and make the changes in my approach that will allow me to be successful at the Syracuse University. As we know, education is the key of the world. It is very crucial, influential and fundamental aspect in our life. The world becomes clear for you when you can actually read and write something. Nowadays, the world’s technology is getting developed more and more and I need to study something in order to adapt with the world’s changes and get a better job after school to support my life and family at large.

I am a NYS court certified Interpreter. Currently, I am an independent medical and legal professional interpreter/translator. I provide interpreting services to those people who are limited English language proficiency speakers especially the Immigrants from  Somalia. This job is typically a busy one. Sometimes I have different appointments on the same day which I can’t fulfill and some days there are no appointments at all. I would like to fulfill my career goals and its activities briefly. I have transfered to Syracuse University from Onondaga community college in order to continue my undergraduate and graduate studies without a break.

Briefly, I would like to describe my career goals for the next coming years. At Onondaga Community College, I started with a General Studies degree program (Liberal arts and science) to gain a broad-based knowledge and skills of different areas but now I want to focus on clinical Social Work, my prospective career plan. If all goes well, I would like to go to the field of Human services and health professions but focus on “Clinical Social Work” specialization mainly. I like working with all people in the world and helping them when there is a need for services. As far as my understanding is concern, the nature of Social work is a profession for those with a strong desire to help improve people’s lives. Any body who wants to wrok with people must get ready fort any possible challenges. For example, Social workers help people function the best way they can in their environment, deal with their relationships, and solve personal and family problems.

Consequently,I want to work hard and achieve and advanced University degree or higher in the future. As I mentioned earlier, if God wishes, I will be ready for any challenges throughout my studying period in order to achieve my planned goals and tasks and help all people who need for my services.  I hope other people to do the same.
